In Blissful Surrender we follow Zayda through the blossoming of an Alien / Human war, her battle against the inhumanity of her people, and through her daily life of leading the United States of America through forging positive connections with the Nadiorians.
I didn’t pick up a single book for about 10 years before I picked this one up and didn’t want to put it down. It was a captivating story with characters I felt I could connect with and relate to – despite if they were human or not. The personalities we meet in this cast are diverse with plenty to love and someone everyone can hate. I particularly enjoyed the narrative of how humans were torn between humanity and hostility towards our alien characters.
When looking at the dynamics of the characters in the book I am OBSESSED. As someone heavily involved in the BDSM community both as a member and leader I love experienced and unique portrayals of BDSM Dynamics in fiction. We see Dominants and submissives structure this unique alien government. I also applaud the author including polyamorous relationship dynamics in the book in a way that isn’t put on some fetishistic pedestal but more nonchalant.
Blissful Surrender also gives us the spiritual aspect of deities and high powers but for an alien civilization which is fascinating and something I’ve not seen done before.
The author Afarel M. Mornin has experience with witchcraft, spirituality, BDSM, social and political, and racial issues like those which we see reflected in this story. While being a science fiction fantasy romance it drips with reality in a way that captivated me quite unexpectedly and drew me into a whole new genre that I had NEVER considered reading.
A great taste of the author’s work, but only the beginning! I would recommend this book to those looking for something easy to read but hard to put down. Those looking for something out of this world with real life edge. If you like a modest amount of spice with attractive and alluring large non-humans. I found this book has something that everyone can enjoy.
So please do yourself a favor and pick up this title! Blissful Surrender by Afarel M. Mornin is just the tip of the iceberg. Believe me!
This book was so incredible! The depth of the world as well as how different each character was and the intricate nature of their lives was refreshing from a lot of books I've read. Of course it was amazing with the added spice factor but even without that seeing the world come to life with the all too real racism and zionism really made the world feel real. The detail out into the characters was so beautiful and brought magnificent visuals. Fuck Greg
